Frequently Asked Questions for parents & GUARDIANS

  • Empower Grappling Collective is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to bringing girls and women together to train. We believe that supporting women and girls in grappling is essential to creating safe, inclusive spaces where they can grow, challenge themselves, and thrive.

  • Your young person is supported by the Collective as a whole, with clear structure and familiar faces throughout the camp.

During camp, our coaches and team members work together to support both training and wellbeing. While young people won’t be with the same coach every moment of the day, there is always a consistent and supportive team around them.

To provide continuity and reassurance, each group has dedicated group leaders who:

    • Are a familiar point of contact for the young people in their group

    • Take responsibility for pastoral care, check-ins, and general wellbeing

    • Help coordinate movement between training, meals, activities, and accommodation

    • Act as the first point of contact if a young person needs support, reassurance, or time out

    Alongside the group leaders:

    • Each training session is run by two coaches — a lead coach and an assisting coach — allowing for closer supervision, smaller working groups, and more individual support

    • Clear supervision is maintained across accommodation, meals, activities, and downtime

    • All adults involved share a clear duty of care within the residential setting

This collective approach means young people are known, supported, and looked after — while still being encouraged to build independence, confidence, and resilience in a safe environment.

If your young person ever feels unsure, overwhelmed, or just needs support, there will always be a known adult from the Collective they can turn to.

We will also provide a dedicated WhatsApp group for communication with Parents & Guardians.

  • All of our coaches and team members of Empower Grappling Collective will have the following as a minimum:

    • Enhanced DBS Check

    • Safeguarding Training

    • Emergency First Aid

We are committed to providing a safe, positive and inclusive environment for all participants.

There will be a dedicated safeguarding officer on camp at all times.

  • The cost includes accommodation, all meals, coaching, training sessions, activities, use of equipment, and dedicated group leaders on hand throughout the day and during all sessions.

  • We recommend a minimum of 6 months experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Gi or No-Gi.

  • Our training focuses on age-appropriate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, physical development, confidence, mindset, and teamwork – all in a positive, supportive environment.

Before the residential, we’ll send a short form to gather the preferences of attendees (and coaches, if they think it’s useful!). We’ll use this to help shape a balanced training plan that supports the whole group while still recognising each individual’s development.

  • Your child will need multiple training kits (in both Gi & No Gi), everyday clothes, personal items, medication, and bedding (sleeping bag/pillow)

A full kit list will be sent after booking so you know exactly what to pack.

  • Yes. We can cater for most dietary requirements and allergies. These should be shared with us in advance so we can plan safely. We will capture this information via a form in the Welcome Pack which will be emailed to you.

  • We collect medical information before the residential. Staff are trained to support common medical needs, and medication can be safely stored and administered where required.

If your Young Person has specific medical needs, please let us know in advance so accommodations can be made.

  • Phone use is limited so children can fully engage and enjoy the experience. Parents will always have an emergency contact number, and if you’d like, you can be added to a WhatsApp group for friendly updates and messages from camp.

All Teens will have access to their phones in their free time and evenings.

  • That’s completely normal. Our team is experienced in supporting young people and will always prioritise your child’s wellbeing, allowing time out or extra support whenever needed.

  • Bookings close on 10th Feb so we can finalise group sizes and supervision ratios.

In the unlikely event the camp is cancelled for any reason (including low numbers), all bookings will be refunded in full via the original payment method.
